About Phi Gamma Delta
The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta has a rich history both on and off the University of Evansville campus, spanning from 1848 to today. Below is some information reguarding the history of both the International Fraternity, and our own Epsilon Iota chapter.
About the Fraternity

On a cool spring night in 1848, six men came together at the Jefferson College in Canonsburg, PA to form the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. These six men long enjoyed a friendship that would eventually lead to a Brotherhood. The year of 1848, thus began the great tradition and the form of excellence that Phi Gamma Delta pursues. This tradition and excellence is also bestowed upon its members.
The Fraternity began to spread its wings later that year,
establishing a chapter at Washington College. Since then,
FIJI has opened its hearts to esteemed College and
University campuses across the United States and Canada.
Currently the Phi Gamma Delta has chapters at 155 college
and university campuses. The total membership is
approximately 5,500 Undergraduate Brothers and over 90,000
Graduate Brothers worldwide. International Headquarters is
now located in Lexington, Kentucky.
Our Chapter's History
Phi Gamma Delta first stepped onto campus at the University of Evansville in 1997. Headquarters established the Delta Colony of Phi Gamma Delta at the University of Evansville on September 1, 1997. This date began our history and set the quest in motion for the newly founded Delta Colony. The spring saw the first class (alpha) initiated into the Colony on February 1, 1998. Through hard work and determination the Delta Colony was approved to pursue its charter on January 22, 2000. After completion of all the requirements in the probationary period, the Epsilon Iota Chapter was established on April 15, 2000.
The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta is a group of men who are extremely involved and dedicated to success at every situation they encounter.
Since the initiation of the Alpha class, the Chapter has
initiated a pledge class every semester of school. Our
chapter consists of about 31 members, including Division 1 athletes progressing to Orientation Leaders. Recently, we have placed 3rd in bike race, had the highest male
Greek GPA, and competed fiercely in every major intramural sport. As a chapter, we are extremely diverse and cover each aspect with open views and welcome all.
Fiji's Five Values
The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta prides itself on it's five vales, values which the Brothers of the Epsilon Iota Chapter strive to adopt into heir actions daily.
Friendship
Friendship is the sweetest influence, the basis of Brotherhood, and the main motivation which brings Chapter's like the Epsilon Iota Chapter together. While is is true that the main goal of college is to teach students, the foremost thing that draws the fine young men who choose Fiji to the Fraternity is the friendships they form. Through the strong bonds of friendship, the other values of Phi Gamma Delta are exemplified even more and brought to heights which would be impossible for any one Brother to achieve alone.
Knowledge
Knowledge is the first and foremost reason one goes to college, and Phi Gamma Delta recognizes this. Knowledge is of the upmost important in the Fraternity, whether is be scholastic knowledge through great grades, or personal self discovery. Every Chapter, including the ours, has a large focus on school and grades. We understand that knowledge is the primary focus of your college career, and the key to a richer, fuller life.
Service
Phi Gamma Delta recognizes that campus and community are important parts of both life and the college experience. This is why Service is a key value to our Brotherhood. We work hard yearly to give back to the community in many ways, whether is be through our many volunteer efforts, including University-Sponsored efforts, or our annual Philanthropy Hot-Tub-A-Thon, where we raise money for the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center. At Phi Gamma Delta, we realize that we have an obligation to give back, and in turn foster personal growth in our Brothers.
Morality
As Brothers of Phi Gamma Delta, we have an commitment to do the right thing in all of our endeavors. This, our Morality, makes our Brotherhood stronger, and our Brothers better people, helping them beyond their college years.
Excellence
Excellence is the full potential of the Chapter, and each
of our Brothers. It is the embodiment of all other values,
and our personal goal to their highest fulfillment.
Excellence is what the Brothers of our Fraternity strive to
achieve each and every day, whether it be on or off campus.
